[zipedit]Venus flytrap - B52 1-2" Potted Starter Plant
The B52 Venus flytrap can grow the largest traps of any Venus flytrap. In full sun, its traps’ interiors can also turn a very deep, beautiful red. Occasionally, the cilia (teeth) also turn red, resulting in one imposing looking carnivorous plant! The B52 is also a large flytrap overall, with fully grown plants commonly spanning five to six inches across. The B52 truly is the king of the flytraps. If you only want to own one flytrap, it should be this one. We consider it the model flytrap, period. Long live the king.
All of the potted flytraps we sell come pre-potted with roots that have established for at least a month. You won't have to pot a bare-root plant and hope it lives like you would with some other sellers. They charge more, make you do all the work, then hope the plant gets established.
Your flytrap will arrive planted in sphagnum moss in a 3" pot (pot may vary from picture). While many agree that sphagnum moss is the best growing medium for flytraps, it does increase the amount of water needed. To prevent unnecessary evaporation and even more watering when growing flytraps in sphagnum moss, terra cotta or net pots should not be used.
This is a live plant and may die if delivered to a porch or outdoor mailbox in freezing or scorching weather (unless taken in quickly). Please provide a shipping address where this will not be a problem such as a work address.
Flytrap Care
WINTER NOTICE: Venus flytraps must have a winter dormancy period. Our young plants are kept out of winter dormancy. (Skipping one dormancy period is Ok). Ordering a flytrap during winter months requires a grow light to keep the plant indoors or a willingness to allow the plant to go into winter dormancy. You can learn more about winter dormancy at our website (wickedbotany.com) or elsewhere on the internet. All plants we ship during cold months include additional winter dormancy instructions. If you are interested in a turn-key solution for enjoying a Venus flytrap during the winter, consider our listing for a USB grow light.
All of our Venus flytraps come with a grow guide and support from us for the life of the plant. Here is a quick summary of flytrap care:
1. Venus flytraps must have distilled water, reverse osmosis water or clean rain water (not collected from an asphalt-shingled roof). A Venus flytrap's soil must be kept moist at all times. Normally, this is done by keeping the pot in a shallow dish of water. A cheap, .00, 2-gallon jug of distilled water will last a single flytrap a VERY long time (months even).
2. Venus flytraps must have soil that is nutrient and fertilizer free.
3. Flytraps love full sun or to be very close to a grow light if indoors.
4. Venus flytraps need a period of cold winter dormancy each year. This can be achieved with a spot in the fridge if your winters are non-existent or too cold.
5. Venus flytraps have no feeding requirements and will just grow less if they don't eat. Of course, you certainly can feed them if you wish.
Shipping
We do not include packing slips in our shipments (unless requested) as they are wasteful and normally just thrown in the trash. Our plants are carefully double-sealed against moisture loss and wrapped in bubble wrap for shipping. They are packaged professionally with the moss held in place while the leaves are free and safe from damage.
Returns
We strive to make everything right! We will be happy to replace or refund your item if there is a problem within 30 days. Please contact us directly before starting a return through the automated system and give us a chance to address the issue. We grow and sell Venus flytraps because we love it, not to get rich. We want our customers to be happy!
Seed Scams
Be aware that seeds that grow into B52, DC XL, or any other flytrap cultivar DO NOT EXIST. While you certainly can harvest seeds from these plants, and may even technically call them "B52 seeds," the seeds will not grow into a genetic copy of either parent. Seeds from a B52 crossed with a B52 will not grow into a B52! Cultivars are not separate species, just chance assortments of genes. Meiosis will always obliterate the specific combination of alleles that make each cultivar unique. If you want a specific type of Venus flytrap, you must buy a plant that is a clone. YOU SHOULD ALSO MAKE SURE SELLERS YOU BUY FROM UNDERSTAND THIS. Buying from hobbyists can be risky. Wicked Botany guarantees the genetics of our cultivars.
