Description
Little did the audience know, but the August 28th, 1947 bullfight at the Plaza de Toros de Linares was to be the last for Spain's most beloved bullfighter, Manuel Rodriguez-better known as 'Manolete.'This rare piece of ephemeral art commemorates the deadly match between Manolete and Luis Miguel "Dominguin" that would result in the fatal goring of Manolete by the fifth bull in the ring and Dominguin claiming the title of Number One Matador on the international bullfighting scene by pure default. Painted as a memorial mid-century by famed Spanish bullfighting painter Antonio Caesero--only one other print has ever come up online for auction previously. This rare and macabre tribute to the sport was collected as part of my grandparent's larger collection of bullfighting memorabilia at some point during their travels to Spanish and Mexican bullfighting events.
