Description

Nepenthes globosa Pink x Hookeriana Red/Spotted - Pink Peristome/Red Pitcher, Male
Rooted Cutting
The first picture shows traps from the exact parent plant. You can see the parent stem in the background of the top two pics (of the intro picture) that these very cuttings came from. This Nepenthes is both beautiful and unique. The large peristome that is a true pink color when it first opens is absolutely beautiful. The deep red color of the pitchers that are carried on extremely long red tendrils makes for a very impressive display. This is a very hardy hybrid that appreciates constant lowland conditions. It does not pitcher well in poor humidity, leaves will redden if kept too cold and it does not like to dry at all, but this plant is absolutely worth it’s needs. This plant has bloomed for me for the past several summers and is a male. These are well started plants that are starting to produce their first pitchers (which will look like the adult pitchers as time passes). Note that some leaves may have very light cosmetic damage. You will be selected one of the healthy cuttings pictured. The largest cuttings ship first.

How I Grow My Plants:
This Nepenthes is currently growing under lowland conditions and it will thrive with plenty of heat and high humidity. It is the consistency of these conditions that will result in success with lowland Nepenthes. I grow my Nepenthes in a substrate of high quality long fiber Sphagnum Moss, Perlite, small bark chips (for both small and large plants), medium bark chips (for larger plants) and a touch of small sized horticultural charcoal to keep the wet conditions fresh. All of my plants are grown in my lowland conditioned greenhouse and some hardier varieties are grown outdoors in shade dappled with sunlight during our warmer months. I am located in Southwest Florida on the Gulf of Mexico side which allows some of my plants to be grown outdoors from May to November. The plants growing in the greenhouse experience 65-80% daytime humidity and 90-95% nighttime humidity. Temperatures range from 70F-90F. I recommend that you do not allow your lowland Nepenthes to be exposed to temperatures below 60F and 60% humidity for optimum growth and overall health. Exposure to temperatures below 60F may cause cold damage to the leaves and pitchers. Use of R/O water for Nepenthes is highly recommended, especially for more sensitive species as it allows for more frequent watering. My plants are never allowed to dry out whatsoever. They are watered either daily or every other day depending on the pot size, but they are never allowed to sit in water. Smaller plants or plants in small pots are always watered daily. Basic Nepenthes/lowland plant growing knowledge is recommended for this purchase. There is lots of further and specific growing information available online. I do not provide basic growing information as this is easily found on online outside of what is in this ad (you will find the information you need by reading all of my ad). Please do your research before bidding or purchasing. While many of the Nepenthes that I offer are quite easy to care for under even basic conditions, some do require additional care to thrive. Please make sure that you look for any special requirements in the ads for my plants as this may be vital to your success with them.
Acclimatizing
New Arrival Plants
:
Some plants may need to acclimatize slowly if you have dry or indoor conditions. Generally I will warn you in the ad if it is a particularly sensitive or young plant that will need extra moisture protection. Most plants offered will adapt readily to basic Nepenthes conditions without any extra care.
Allow the plant to recover from shipping at lower light and higher humidity conditions than normal for at least one week post arrival.
Plants will recover quickly from slight humidity burn. Acclimatization of new plants or recovery from humidity burn can easily be done with the use of a plastic bag or a large Tupperware/plastic storage container. If you need to reduce the humidity for the plant, do so slowly from the bag/container by the use of air holes or cracking the lid. This process can take between 2-4 weeks depending on your plant and conditions. There is lots of information online about how to do this. Make sure you have everything needed to pot up the plant immediately upon arrival. Delaying unpacking the plant may set it back through pitcher loss, tendrils not developing and leaf/root damage. Keep in mind that your plant is greenhouse hardened, not living room hardened. If you are growing your plants in a terrarium or grow tent, the plants will not need any adjusting other than to recover from being repotted and shipped.
Light:
My Nepenthes are grown in a greenhouse under bright shade. They will adjust quickly to any kind of lighting that provides similar conditions. Most of my plants get some direct soft morning sun or some filtered direct afternoon sun. This allows the plants to develop nice color in the leaves and especially in the pitchers. Be sure to soften the lighting for any new arrivals for the first week and then bring them up to normal light levels gradually. This will help them adjust to their new light conditions. Be sure to watch any new plants for burn, especially if placing them under grow lights. Always place the plant in the outside perimeter of the lighting set up first and then gradually move the plant into its' intended spot with the increased light level. I have found the best results with Nepenthes using 6500K T8 flourescent bulbs available at Home Depot. Remember that some Nepenthes like stronger light than others.
Sizes
:
Please keep in mind that some of these plants (especially certain seed grown plants or small growing species) can be very small. Generally, the last photo of the ad has a ruler in it with the plant for reference. Multiple photos of the plant(s) that is up for sale makes it easy to see what you are purchasing. Make sure that you are comfortable with the size/condition of the plant that you are looking to purchase before you buy. Any imperfections in the plant are shown in the photos and are never hidden.
How Your Plant Will Be Shipped
:
Your plant will be professionally packed with great care. The plant will be shipped bare root wrapped in damp sphagnum moss for protection. I do not ship in the pot. Plants will be bagged properly, the root ball will be wrapped in moist paper towel and plastic wrap, the root ball is then stapled into place inside the bag, labeled with the plant's full name and secured inside the box for transit using shipping tape. If your plant has a long stem, the stem will be supported with additional thick shipping tape to prevent movement in the box during transit.  All plants will come with a printed ID tag that is ready for use.
The box will be labeled prominently with "Live Plant" and "Perishable/Fragile" stickers to clearly mark the box for the carrier. I only ship plants in boxes that are large enough so that they can not fit into a blazing hot standard mailbox, so even if you order a very small plant it will still come in a good sized box. This generally forces the carrier to bring the box to your door for delivery. It is imperative that you track the progress of your plant while its in transit so that you can retrieve it immediately upon delivery.
There is a possibility that there will be some leaf or pitcher damage upon arrival and this is normal in shipping. The plants generally recover quickly and replace any light damage under appropriate growing conditions. This light damage is not considered actual shipping damage as it is only temporarily cosmetic. Due to the way that I pack my plants, great care must be taken during the unpacking process. Staples are used to secure the plants in the shipping bags, so the best way to get them out is to simply cut them out using a razor blade knife and scissors. During this process it is vital to support the entire plant by unpacking it on a large flat surface such as a table. This process can be time consuming and intricate, but it ensures an undamaged arrival. Be sure to have everything ready to pot up your plant immediately upon arrival (plastic pot, fully mixed and rinsed media, wooden/plastic stake if support is needed, twist ties to tie the plant to a stake if needed, R/O or distilled water to presoak media components and for a final flush of the pot, spray mister, tub or clear plastic bag that is large enough to contain the pot and plant - only IF the plant needs to acclimatize to much lower humidity. Keep in mind that the plant may have to be misted during the potting process to keep it from drying out (especially the new pitcher tendrils) depending on where you do it. When my Nepenthes are prepped for shipping, the traps are emptied of both fluid and caught insects. Be sure to refill each of the empty pitchers one quarter full using R/O or distilled water (do not use tap water for this as it may damage the pitcher). Remove any dead/yellowing leaves and pitchers upon arrival.
