This is a great handmade Pirogue style trappers dory, fresh from an estate near the shores of lake champlain here in vermont. The story is this and 3 others like it were made by this family just after WWII, I bought it from the grandson. I will tell the buyer who the family is if they want to know. It was used as a trapping and hunting boat on the backwaters and swamps o
f lake champlain in addison county.
I was told stories of muskrats piled as high as its sides. It measures about 12 feet long. It is very sturdy. Guessing about 100 lbs. I believe it is made of steamed cedar. The tin on the sides is original and was to protect the boat as it broke through ice. Newer 2x4 blocks were added under the seat ends. I do have the original push pole that will go with it. A wonderful addition to any vermont outdoors, boating, hunting, fishing or trapping collection. Displays nicely. Sold as shown.
