Description
Drosera Burmannii, live adult/flowering size plant, 1+ inch diameterDrosera Burmannii is one the fastest tentacles moving sundew. And a great choice for carnivorous plant beginners, because it is very easy to care.
The tentacles respond and start to move within a couple seconds when prey is trapped by the "dew" and started to struggle. You can see it with naked eyes(well, it still requires a bit patience), although its speed is still no match to venus flytrap which shuts within tens of milliseconds level.
Here are some key points for growing Drosera Burmannii:
Media:
Peat based CP soil or simply just
New Zealand Long Fiber Sphugnum Moss
Water:
Distilled water or RO filterd water or collected rain water. TDS reading must be under 50ppm.
Size:
Drosera Burmannii is a small plant. Even with frequent feeding, it can still hardly reach 2 inches diameter. Root system is relatively long, better to use pots that are at least 3 inches deep.
Feeding:
Not necessary, but it will appreciate regular feeding with right type of food in right size.
Any small insects/bugs are fine, dead or alive. Or fish food like "Freeze Dried Blood Worms", if you prefer not to handle insects/bugs.
If use dried blood worm, hydration is optional. Drosera Burmannii can handle dried food, but it will make it easier for the plant if you hydrated first.
Food size is better to be smaller than leaf size. The plant can handle larger food, however it may cause the leaf to die off due to mold. I would suggest to feed small and frequent.
You can feed it 1 ~ 2 pieces food every 1 or 2 weeks.
Temperature:
Prefer warm temperature, but not too hot. 80F - 90F is a good range. Out of this range may not kill it, but the growth would slow down.
Light:
It can handle a wide range of light condition, but to keep it pretty and healthy, better to give it as much light as possible.
Winter handling:
No dormancy is needed. If you give it a suitable environment, it will grow year round, never die off.
Propagation:
By seeds, very easy (maybe too easy, so be carefully, it may turn into weeds in your collection).
The flowers do self pollination by themselves. And super tiny seeds fall off everywhere near the pot. Before you know it, tons of babies will take over the exposed surface of your pot. Unless you really want these babies, you may want to cut off the flower stalk. The flowers are not very attractive, not worth the trouble they are going to cause.
On the otherside, flowering won't cost the plant much energy. If you do want seeds, no need to worry about the plant health, just feed it regularly, you will get countless seeds.
The plant you will get is in adult size (about to flower, if not already have flower stalk pushing out). About 1 ~ 1.5 inches diameter.
Shipping notes:
Shipping will be bare root, with sphagnum moss wrapping the roots.
The plant will most likely lose all the "dews" during shipping. No need to worry about it, it can get them back in 3 ~ 5 days after potting.
