Description
Asian Brass Hibachi / Brazier or Planter with Ornate Wood Stand. This Brass vessel and Wood Stand were a recent find at a local estate. We are not sure if the stand was originally paired with the vessel, but they work well together, and we are offering them as found. The Brass vessel may have originally been a Hibachi / Brazier, but works equally well as an ornate and unique planter.
The vessel is a large piece, weighing 8 pounds 14 ounces. It measures 12-1/4 inches in diameter at the rim and is 7-1/4 inches high. Folding handles on the side make it a bit easier to move around, and three stubby feet protrude from the bottom. The outside surface on the side is covered with raised images of various items. A kettle and a planter are two of the more recognizable images, where others are more of a mystery. There are no maker marks, but machining marks on the interior surface (see picture) suggest that this is more likely an early 20th century piece.
The Wood Stand weighs 1 pound 13 ounces, and is constructed as two pieces which join together at their center. Pierced areas, and scrolly curved edges make for an ornate piece, which complements the more basic lines on the vessel. The wood finish on the stand is also a nice complement to the brass patina on the vessel. Combined, the Stand and vessel weigh 10 pounds 11 ounces.
Condition: Very good overall. The vessel is free of any structural damage and has an aged patina. The interior has a crust covering the bottom from previous use. The Stand has a couple of repaired areas, a chip on one edge, and some splits in the wood. We've included a couple of pictures of the stand by itself, so you can better evaluate its condition. All pictures show the actual vessel and Stand that you will receive.
This would be a great decorative addition to any patio or garden, with the stand adding a lot of character if you decide to use the vessel as a planter, and are placing the combination in an interior location.
