1920's ANTIQUE IVORY from SALEM "Bird of Paradise" Pancake warmer set with dome
This is a very rare and lovely old antique pancake warmer made by Salem. It was made in the 1920's and is in excellent condition considering that it is nearly 100 years old.
Set is pale, creamy yellow, somewhat mottled color.
Set features colorful floral and peacock / pheasant bird pattern in the center of base plate and on three places on the dome.  (one large, two are smaller)
Base plate measures approximately 11 1/4" in diameter. Dome is approximately 8 1/2" diameter.
Base plate is eight sided octagon shape with a floral and ribbed embossed border.
Base plate has a very thin black trim line around the center and another thicker black trim line along the edge of the rim.
Dome is ribbed around the body
and embossed around the rim.  It also has 3 air holes to vent and let out steam.
There is a black trim line along the rim, another thin line at the top of the ribbing and another on the handle with a black dot in the center of the handle.
Plate has "ANTIQUE IVORY FROM SALEM Pat. Aug 9-27" back stamp.
Each piece has crazing, but I personally think it adds to the vintage character of the pieces.
Two rough spots on very bottom surface of rim of dome, not noticeable when piece is together.
Back of plate has marks from where piece was held during glazing process.
My research found the Salem China Co. was established in 1898 and they typically hand painted their pieces.  Their more elaborate patterns, such as the Bird of Paradise / Golden Pheasant, used decal transfers. Salem China was evidently a leader in the pottery industry for many years. Crazing and all, these area beautiful pieces to add to your Ivory from Salem collection!
